Hi!

I received your message. If you are having any difficulty reading the small writing on the postcard, I thought I’d write it out here for you:

Namaste (नमस्ते) Achim,
Greetings from Jaipur! Since you love UNESCO sites and heritage, I thought I’d give you a little tour of Jaipur through this postcard.

Firstly, Jaipur’s historic walled city was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019. Unlike a single monument, UNESCO recognises the whole historic city.

In this view you can spot Hawa Mahal, the famous “Palace of Winds”; Jantar Mantar, the remarkable 18th-century astronomical observatory built by Sawai Jai Singh II; Nahargarh Fort, perched on the Aravalli hills overlooking the city; and Sarga Suli, the tall victory tower built in 1749.

What is not visible in the postcard is Haldiya Ki Haveli, associated with Shri Radha in Jaipur. The idols of Shri Radha and Shri Krishna are enshrined at the Brij Nidhi Temple.

Kaanch ka Darwaza (Glass Door) is associated with the story of Maharaja Sawai Jagat Singh II and Ras Kapoor. It was quite a scandal.

And since you are a polyglot, here’s a little Rajasthani term for you—
Khamma Ghani, now a greeting in Rajasthan, but originally a term used to ask for forgiveness in advance while speaking to royalty.

With this I conclude my writing,
~ Nanki

I apologise for the rather tiny handwriting! The postcard simply did not have enough space, but I couldn’t let the lack of space become a barrier. As someone who loves history and culture, I wanted to share as much of Jaipur with you as I possibly could. I genuinely enjoy telling people about my culture while discovering theirs in return, and I suppose I got a little carried away trying to fit a small piece of Jaipur into one postcard!

thank you once again for appreciating the time and thought that went into it.
