The ShUM cities of Speyer, Worms and Mainz refer to the cluster of three Jewish communities from the High Middle Ages Shpira (Sh), Warmaisa (W=U), and Magenza (M). They were centres of Jewish scholarship and of great importance for Ashkenazic Judaism, which developed here in the diaspora.
